History of Salmast

On May 6, 1930, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter scale hit Salmast. Dilman, the capital city of Salmast, was destroyed beyond repair. Therefore, a new city was built instead.  The city, which was named Shahpour was built based on modern concepts of city planning..  On April 17, 1931, the construction work started amid much fanfare. Government officials, construction workers and enthusiastic villagers, especially from Haftvan, celebrated the happy occasion along with a music band.
